Victoria er den sørligste

befolkede. Victoria grenser til New
South Wales i nord og South
Australia i vest. Sør for Victoria ligger Basstredet
og Tasmania.
Før den europeiske kolonialiseringen bodde det rundt 30 000 aborginere i det området
som nå utgjør delstaten.

Victoria ble kolonialisert som en
jordbrukskoloni, men dette endret seg under gullrushet i 1851 som forandret
